Raffle Quilt Construction

The 2027 RNQG raffle quilt is based on a classic, scrappy on-point 9-patch design as shown in the diagram below.

Blocks in the finished quilt measure 4½” square. The solid blocks will all be Kona Cotton Corn Yellow (color #F001-1089).

Members are asked to make scrappy 9-patch blocks using high-contrast fabrics. Since approximately two hundred 9-patch blocks are needed for this large quilt, all are encouraged to make as many as they would like!

9-PATCH FABRIC CHOICES

  • Use two high-contrast fabrics
  • Avoid fabrics which are close in color to the solid squares
  • Use what you have and love: brights, traditional, muted, batiks, reproduction, etc.

SEWING GUIDELINES

  • Use a scant ¼” seam
  • Press seams towards the darker fabric
  • Make some blocks with darker fabric in the corners and middle, other blocks with lighter fabrics in the corners and middle. Both types are needed!
  • Verify that the completed block measures 5″ square and the center square measures 1½” X 1½”!
