The RNQG Board and Quilt Show Committee have decided to bring back judging for the 2027 Quilt Show. The last Quilt Show with judging was held in 2013, when the judge was Pat Harrison. We are pleased to have Pat Harrison return as our judge in 2027.
When considering whether to bring back judging, the Quilt Show Committee discussed the following reasons for having our show judged:
- Entrants are encouraged to strive for a higher level of quality in their quilts.
- Every quilt that is judged receives an unbiased written critique, which is a valuable learning tool.
- Judges are not “out to get you” or hurt your feelings. They judge because they love quilts and want to help quilters improve their skills. Their comments are intended to be either positive or constructive.
- Quilters become more aware of the importance of quality and craftsmanship when they know their quilt will eventually be examined by a judge. It reinforces the idea that “every stitch counts.”
- A judged show can enhance the reputation of our Quilt Show within the community, which may, in turn, lead to increased attendance.
The Quilt Show Committee determines the judging categories. Depending on the number of entries in each category, the judge will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as Honorable Mention, in each of the following categories:
- Art Quilts
- Appliqué
- Pieced
- Hand Quilted
- Machine Quilted
Pat will also award ribbons based on her personal selections for:
- Judges’ Choice
- Best Use of Color
- Hand Quilting
- Track Quilting
- Stationary Quilting
- National Judge’s Award, if appropriate
Judging Date and Location
Judging will take place on April 3, 2027, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Norton Public Library.
Each quilter who chooses to have a quilt judged is responsible for bringing the quilt(s) to the library at 9:30 a.m. If you are unable to drop off your quilt(s) at that date and time, other arrangements can be made.
The guild will keep the judged quilts secure until the Quilt Show the following weekend.
If you would like to have your quilt(s) judged, indicate your choice on the registration form. The cost for judging is $5 per quilt.
