Teacher: Diana Annis
Workshop : Quilt Labels
Member Fee: $35 Non-Member Fee: $40
During this 3-hour workshop, Diana Annis puts on her "teaching cap" once again and helps class participants learn how to design and create the important final element of our quilts: the label!
"This is the last bit on your quilt that answers all the questions," says Diana. "It's the one piece of information that will tell your story in its entirety and is the one element most often deleted. I'll show you the who - what - why - where and when of making a creative, fun label. I believe this is the most important part of a quilt, besides finishing it! There are no limits to your creativity when it comes to a label. No size, shape, or concept limits. Just imagine!"

Topic: "Beyond the Tee"
Mary Cannizzaro is a woman with a wealth of textile experience. She spent years working for high end interior designers as their drapery workroom specialist; designing commission quilts; quilting on domestic and long arm machines; and teaching classes. In 2014, she and her daughter opened Cannizzaro Creations, a quilting studio in Rockland, MA. The duo began selling fabric, offering classes, and taking quilt commissions.
Many of the commissions were based on using t-shirts to make memory quilts for a graduating student or a loved one who had died. What they discovered was that the existing basic t-shirt quilt consisted of decals sewn together like a checkerboard. Absolutely no thought to design and creativity!
The pair set out to create something different and better. Using clothing from three small children from one family, they decided (with permission from the mom) to mix it up and put life into the quilt. They collaborated -- laying out the clothing, discussing the possibilities of design and fabric and executing. When they finished that first quilt, they knew they had created something special. Their success led them to self-publish a book which caught the attention of (and was ultimately adopted by) C & T Publishing.
PLEASE NOTE: Mary will return to Walpole in February to teach a workshop! Details can be found on the February calendar page.
