Topic: “Patchwork and Perseverance: A Dear Jane Adventure”
Join Sarah for a colorful, challenging -- and occasionally humorous -- journey through the creation of her Dear Jane quilt: a modern take on the iconic 1863 sampler quilt designed by Jane Stickle. She will share information about her quilting background and touch on the limited history behind Jane and her quilt.
From foundation paper piecing to hand appliqué, Sarah will talk about the techniques she used, the challenges she faced, and the creative (and sometimes comical) ways she overcame them. If you have ever thought of completing a Dear Jane quilt, Sarah hopes that her words will inspire you to give it a try.
Sarah is a recent addition to the RNQG member list, joining the guild following the RNQG Quilt Show last April. She has been quilting in spare moments for the past 18 years while juggling the demands created by full-time employment and raising children. She retired in June 2025 and is now excited by the prospect of spending more time designing and making quilts. She appreciates all kinds of quilts -- antique to modern -- and is always interested in trying new techniques.

Workshop: Spiffy Bindings
Member Fee: $65 Non-Member Fee: $75
Janet Elia is a recognized quilter on the local, regional, and national quilt show circuit. A member of RNQG for more than a dozen years, her background and credentials are well-known. A former nurse and mother of two who took her first quilting class in 1984, she was ultimately "stung" by the quilting bug in 1998 when Alex Anderson of Simply Quilts fame motivated her to try new techniques and more complicated patterns. Since "infected", she has worked at quilt shops, taught quilting classes, and also lectures at local quilt guilds.
Guild members were so enthralled by the "Finish With a Spiffy Binding" lecture she presented to RNQG last April, they begged to have her come back to teach us how to make them... and Janet agreed!
Everyone knows when your quilt top is done, sandwiched and quilted, you need to bind it. Janet adds, "But not with any binding -- bind it with a Spiffy Binding!!!"
During this workshop she teaches participants how to make several types of Spiffy bindings: Regular, Flange, Faced, Piped and Beaded. Other types will be discussed.
There is a kit fee of $15 payable to Janet at the workshop (cash or check only).
The kit contains:
- 6 pre-quilted 6" squares,
- 2 yards cording,
- 1/2 yard of 4mm faux string pear bead garland, and
- a booklet with step-by-step instructions for making each of the binding styles.
