Topic: “The History of Redwork Quilts"
Tonight, RNQG's own Diana Annis leaves the audience and comes to the front of the room to teach guild members about Redwork!
Redwork is a style of "art needlework" that first became popular iin the U.S. in the late part of the 19th century. It features hand embroidered stitching on a white or off-white background using a contrasting thread color. Traditionally, the thread color was red.
Designs ranged from intricate florals to charming motifs of family life in 20th century America.
Join us to learn how this art form has persisted and evolved over the years!
Diana's quilting journey began in 1979 using cardboard templates and sewing one block at a time -- the common quilt construction method before machine piecing and quilting became the norm. Longarm quilting was added to her repertoire in the summer of 2002, guiding her large machine by hand.
Now nationally known as a quilter and lecturer, she is an award-winning longarmer whose work has appeared on the front cover of a national quilting magazine. Her most recent accomplishment is successfully completing the multi-year program to be a certified quilt appraiser. Kudos!!!
