Workshop  : Sashiko Table Topper

Member Fee: $65            Non-Member Fee: $75

Most members of RNQG are aware that guild member Janet Elia is a quilter who greatly enjoys hand-stitched elements in her creations.   During this workshop, students will spend the day learning about sashiko:   its history, patterns, and fabric choices; marking a design; thread and needle choices; and the Sashiko stitching technique.

Each student will work to complete a single sashiko block.  Two options are available:

tradSashiko               appSashiko
Traditional Sashiko Block   Appliquéd Center
Sashiko Block

By day's end, participants will be well on their way to completing their very own work of art!

Topic: "If MacGyver was a Quilter"

bantonIt's likely that RNQG members remember the "MacGyver" TV series launched in 1985.   It followed the adventures of  a secret agent armed with remarkable resourcefulness.  "Mac" was able to solve any problem out in the field using only materials found at hand.  It was astounding the variety of obstacles he could overcome  starting with duct tape, a paper clip and vinegar!

Michelle Banton may well be a "quilting MacGyver".  This evening she shares 75-100 different quilting hacks you can devise using  items currently in your house.  Audience members are encouraged to share their tips and hacks -- the more the merrier!

Michelle summarizes her career as a "Self-proclaimed Human Quilt Sampler".  Over 25 years she has been  involved in many components of the quilting industry.  Her background is in event planning and marketing, but she has worked with vendors, teachers and volunteers.  She teaches and lectures on a number of quilt-related tops, organizes retreats, workshops and bus tours of interest to the quilting community.  She brings a unique viewpoint with her presentations and workshops!
