Topic: Making Mosaic Art Quilts

Heidi Proffetty is an award-winning quilter and professional teacher known for her unique style of mosaic art quilts.  Working from photographs she has taken, all of her quilts are created by cutting, arranging, and sewing together small pieces of colored fabric to create images.  Some of her designs are quite realistic;  others, decidedly abstract.   Her designs for Moroccan tile quilt blocks are inspired by ancient tile artwork. 

In this lecture,  Heidi discusses both traditional and innovative methods for drawing and tracing designs,  fabric cutting techniques, and gives tips for professionally finishing a mosaic quilt.

This lecture will give you just enough insight into her creative and inspirational mosaic quilt-making process to make you want to learn more!

A first place award for her newest geometric style of mosaic quilts, Azul Medallions (block detail shown right), was awarded at the 2022 AQS Show in Paducah, KY.  She has also been the recipient of several awards for her pictorial style of mosaic quilts.

Her quilts have been featured in traveling exhibits and local galleries. She has made guest appearances on The Quilt Show and Quilting Arts TV and is a regular contributor to the Janome Sewing Machine’s Maker/Artisan program where she frequently provides free projects and content related to quilting and sewing.

Bring the art of Ancient & Modern tile making to your quilting!  Use color, symmetry and interweaving shapes to create your own unique design.

Learn about making Moroccan mosaic designs of your own. Heidi will discuss both traditional and innovative design and cutting techniques and she'll show you how to do her NEW direct placement technique for putting the mosaic design together without the need for a light box or fabric marking tools.

Using Heidi's kit (choice of two colorways), you will be hand cutting your mosaic fabric pieces, puzzling together your own beautiful 12" x 12" Moroccan Mosaic quilt tile. Plus, Heidi will share her tips for successfully quilting and finishing your quilt tile.

Class is appropriate for all skill levels.
